Curt Crofford and Kevin Jackson

How long have you been Crossfitting?
6 years today (August 20); thinking about graduating to L2.
What is your occupation?
Kevin is a tax partner at KPMG. Curt does deals to pay for last year's private school tuition.
Where are you from?
Denver (Kevin) and Houston (Curt)
How did you hear about CrossFit Strong?
During the summer of 2012, Steve Graham wouldn't stop talking about it. He'd attend a class and vomit. He thought that was awesome and wanted us to try it, too. We finally relented, but he only talked about it more.
How have you seen yourself change - mentally or physically - since being a part of CFS?
Physically, I'm pretty sure I see some abdominal muscles but that could just be the lighting. Mentally, David Burford's barbs about being old just bounce off us.
What is your favorite move?
Driving home after a WOD.
What is your least favorite move?
Constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movements
What has been your favorite WOD so far?
  • Curt: The one when Kevin Jackson was totally representing the old guys. He was in first place (out of a class of 7) going into the last 400 meter run of the final round. Kevin hates running. Ashley Yocum ran him down and passed him despite Kevin's 25 second head start. It was glorious and terrible all at the same time.
What has been your least favorite WOD ?
  • Curt: The one when a Strong member who shouldn't have beat Curt in finishing the WOD did so and then helped him count out the last two minutes of his remaining reps. That “support” added insult to injury.
What are some of your goals that you have for yourself in the next year?
To make it to a 7th CrossFit anniversary while staying on this side of the dirt.
How do you see CrossFit as different from other programs?
Oddly, we love it when Kim yells at us.
Did you think a sport of elite fitness would ever be for you?
The more appropriate question is whether CrossFit ever saw it as appropriate for us.
How can other people relate to your story?
You, too, can shave reps, put 10 lbs on each end of your bar, walk around huffing and puffing and talk incessantly about CrossFit.
What is something that no knows about you and you wouldn't mind sharing?
On Saturday, I beat Kevin in finishing the WOD (6 rounds of 30 air squats, 19 power cleans, 7 strict pull ups and 400 meter run), but he did 19 power cleans (Rx) per round and I did 15 (not Rx). I could tell he was irked that I finished before him.
What is the dumbest thing you have heard at CFS?
5am class – How do you guys do it?
What is the funniest thing you have seen done at CFS?
See question above about favorite WOD and Kevin getting smoked by Ashley.
What is your most memorable moment here?
Gale says to Curt – "You've been coming to CrossFit this long, and you don't know what a clean and jerk is?"
